All right my name is John Elder from Courserapy.com and welcome to the morning course report! So I've decided to sort of create a YouTube channel and chronicle my online course creation production and marketing and let you sort of walk sort of next to me and see what I'm doing online

So I make coding courses I saw them primarily at udemy and other places and so in this channel we're gonna sort of just watch and see what my stats are what I'm doing to market my courses how I'm producing course there's all kinds of good stufflike that and just let you follow along with me.

So today is the very first one of these so we're just gonna sort of blunder through this and see how it goes so I want to start out showing you my udemy for the profile page is a http://udemy.com/user/johnelder3 and you can see I have 45,419 current students 37 courses whole bunch of reviews.

I have over a hundred thousand enrollments in my courses most of my students take several of my courses so you can see that we can really quickly just sort of look through this is the sort of stuff Ihave just courses on coding.

Here's bootstrap if you know anything about coding a Postgres database HTML PHP programming something Ruby on Rails some Django some Python stuff like that you can see this one's a new one bootstrap for for everyone launched a few weeks ago this install how to install Ruby on Rails on Windows is the highest rated in its category right now, this build a user authentication web app with Django is the highest rated in its category right now.

And we can scroll through here just very quickly since the first one of these videos were making I'll kind of look through here intro to steam it cryptocurrency highest rated cool what else do we have how to make a scientific research poster highest-rated weird that's really the only course that I have that's sort of different than coding the rest are straight out coding here's ruby game development more PHP some more HTML Ruby Ruby on Rails sequel database stuff and stuff like that so you can check this out if you're interested it's not that interesting.

Now I'm going to log into my instructor dashboard and if we click on performance an error recently checking performance stats so we'll come back to that later so before we getting anything else I'm just gonna pull up some just an excel sheet that I made and I'm every day I'm gonna go through this I'm going to talk about the numbers we could talk about how many courses I sold the day before and you know some different things like that that may or may not be interesting to you I it's kind of interesting to me because I need to keep on top of these numbers to make sure everything's going well might be interesting to you just to sort of see how someone else is doing sort of shoot for a similar goal yourself or whatever so here I have the last two days the 18th and the 19th of December 2018 so let's just start with the 18th.

On the 18th I sold 13 courses and I earned $56 and 77 cents which is not bad that comes to four dollars and 37 cents of course now you know how unum egos they sell courses at all different types of price points so I think it's it's kind of useful to have an average daily price per course just so you can kind of keep on top of udemy's pricing you'll notice this will fluctuate a lot and you can say oh they're doing some pricing tests or whatever and it's sort of you know it gives you a little bit of an insight into things so that's why I like to track that refunds up till now for December $42.99 yesterday we got four reviews and this is the last review that's just for my own sort of a wave so I'd keep track of which reviews are new or not so that's pretty cool.

Month to date yesterday the 18th the total income for the month so far up to the 18th was 986 dollars and 82 since that's not counting that is counting refunds so I've already taken out I've already subtracted out the refunds to get this number to date on the 18th who had sold 231 courses 112 reviews in so far up until then in December and promotional activity this is when you send out your own emails to your students and then they buy something from those emails that's a promotional activity so far I've made 80 bucks doing that so now let's move to yesterday yesterday sold more courses twenty to a hundred and $11.36 a very active day we like to see that I been here the earn per course went up you know what 71 cents it looks like so I sold more courses and sort and sort of earn more per course which is very interesting to see.

No additional refunds yesterday and five reviews yesterday finally let's see total income if to date thousand ninety-eight of course is sold 253 total reviews 117 and no additional promotional activity so those are my sort of current stats and as I sort of build out this show and you know decide what I want to talk about each day I'll probably change these stats a little bit I might add other stats that I track I might remove something if nobody's interested in it or whatever so this is just sort of checking all these things out here we can go on the reviews and the last couple of days you can see five star five star four stars nice little I like when they write stuff that's always better

There's a little bit of a criticism would expect more exercises well I never do exercises in any of my courses so that's weird but they give a four star review so who cares five star four star and you can see Rebecca Lee was the last one we got yesterday so these are all from today five star five star five star five star I generally get good reviews for most of my courses I try and do a good job and have high production quality in them and so for the most part I get good reviews of course like anything every once in a while you're gonna get bad reviews and some of them are weird they don't make any sense when they write something has nothing to do with the course or sometimes they don't understand that one is bad I've seen that before.

I've emailed students that giving me a one-star review and say hey why did you give me a one-star and they're like oh isn't that good other countries have other systems and they just didn't realize so that happens sometimes star I'm just going to go through a couple of these because kind of interesting four and a half stars four and a half stars five five five four so interesting let's see if we can find one as some actual stuff written for a good course instructor go step by step from scratch so it's very easy to follow explanations are clear along the way all these videos is great as well very satisfied it's good courses made precise and simple to understand still talk still taking the course nice and fast so far ok for the best courses I've ever taken John you are the best teacher ever that is very cool.

Look at this username udemy one for six months kind of weird right anyway so that's pretty much it that's what I want to talk about today like I said this is the very first episode I guess you want to call this I'll be blogging everyday about these I'll talk about stats but I'm also going to talk about sort of what I'm doing so I'm always testing new things I might test different intro videos I might test different thumbnails you know these pictures I might test different video formats I'm always doing lots of different tests and I'm going to share those with you as we go forward so I should be cool and yeah so if you enjoy this be sure I like this channel I check out Courserapy.com there's nothing there at the moment but we're building out the website soon we'll list all these all these videos and have some other content that you can check out eventually.

I'm going to create a course on how I build my courses because I do in a very unique way and people are always asking me how I do this stuff and so eventually I'll make a course on that and that'll be at Courseray.com we'll talk about that much later but it should be cool I'm going to be starting a Facebook group if you want to follow along ask questions interact all those things it's not up yet maybe today or tomorrow I'll get that up and that should be cool so my name is John Elder from Courserapy.com and thanks for watching
