What's going on guys welcome to the daily you to me income report show where I talk about making money on you to me walk you through what's working for me and teach you how to do the same thing my name is John Elder from Courserapy.com and today is Wednesday January 23rd 2019 in today's episode I want to talk about other places besides you to me where you can sell your videos but before we do that let's take a look at yesterday's numbers so yesterday was the 22nd Tuesday and it's go to daily stats we had 12 courses sold not fantastically good especially compared to the day before but it came to fit three dollars and 54 cents which is not terrible a four dollars and 46 cents per course average not as high as the day before but still pretty good but higher than that low 3 per course we've been seeing lately a refunds to date stayed the same at 85 49 we had 12 reviews now yesterday
I thought maybe the review system was being a little wonky and it turns out I think that was the case when I looked this morning there were some that had showed up overnight from the day before they weren't on there so I added them into the 12 here so we'll go ahead and take a look at those in just a minute month to date stats on the 22nd we've had 1675 dollars sold so far 442 courses 177 reviews month to date and promotional activity is the same and Toberman Romans have gone two hundred twelve thousand eight hundred twenty six and average rating has stayed the same at four point five two so taking a quick look at my uni profile page udemy.com four slash user for / Jong Islander three total students forty five thousand nine hundred and seventy three thirty seven courses and two thousand five hundred sixteen reviews and thing we really want to look at is that the Postgres
course still has the bestseller tag fantastic and that sequel course still has the highest rated tag though I suspect it won't tomorrow because we had a bad review come in overnight we'll look at that right now actually so reviews three-star review clear explanation with the content I expected the course to be more in-depth and then they put accurate course description no well this is a beginner course of course landing page when you order it says it's a beginner course no prior knowledge necessary for beginners blah blah blah so I commented hi Fiona this is a beginners course and says so on the course landing page won't make a bit of difference she's not gonna change her review but if somebody else sees that review at least they'll see that and know that this person is a little goofy so see four and a half stars for this Postgres course we just got these through these real
quick as we usually do five star straight to the point and clear fantastic five stars five stars three stars this is a sequel course so for whatever reason Andrew hare has given us three stars so that's probably gonna knock the highest-rated badge off it just takes one bad review usually but we'll keep an eye on it and see four and a half stars four stars four stars four and a half stars five stars John elder has a fun and down-to-earth presentation whoo I learned a lot and enjoyed the process now I know much more about Python my sequel interactivity that is a great review love that thank you very much Michael that is awesome and the last one five stars yeah pretty good so for the rest of this video I want to talk about other places where you can sell your udemy courses now a lot of times when I mentioned you can sell your courses some other places people are kind of shocked
they're like wait udemy lets you do that of course you to me lets you do that they're your courses they're your content you own them even though you're selling them on udemy udemy doesn't own your content you do and they're perfectly fine with you selling it wherever you want the only policy they have in place that's sort of about that is they won't let you give your course away for free somewhere else so that's the only prohibition at udemy you could sell it anywhere you want on your own website on other websites that are similar to you to me anywhere you want so where are some of those places that you can sell it and should you even bother is what we're going to talk about in this course or in this video so a couple of places that I saw mine I saw mine all over the place if somebody asked me hey can we sell your course I will almost always say yes unless it's very very
shady and I can tell which ones are very very shady but all the major ones anyone ever comes to me and says hey can we do this I'll usually do that now when that happens I almost never make any money like I might make bucks over the next year you know $20 $30 if it's especially good I'll make $100 over the next year or whatever right so by and large it's not a great thing to do that but it does get you out there and I've had other opportunities come in from somebody who saw one of my courses at one of those other places that did actually make a lot of money so a big place the big competitor for you to meet really the only one really is Skillshare comm and they have a different model you can buy like a membership for this site for not very much and you can watch all the videos and there's two ways to make money you can use a promo code that they'll give you in like an affiliate
URL and anybody that signs up that way you get ten bucks right so that's good at you know amongst it stuff but as far as like video content creation the way you make money with that is by uploading your courses you get paid per minute right and they're not real clear how much they pay per minute because it fluctuates based on how much money they make and blah blah blah so you can see I have we can go - oops my teacher stats and I don't have a whole lot of courses uploaded I have one two three four five see view all my classes ten courses or so so one two three four five spinning spinning six seven eight nine ten more eleven so I've got eleven courses up and the very first one I ever uploaded they came to me and said hey you should put your courses here we'll promote it a little bit if you do so I did and they put this this course on the front page of their game development
category and so he got 77 people to join I didn't make her lay any money off of that though so this one has six students six students for students 15 students six students nine five four five so you can see like this same course here at udemy has I don't know two or three thousand students right now not all of those paid for my that course but a goodly amount of them did versus five here so you're not gonna make much money here that being said I know people who are making five six seven thousand dollars per month on Skillshare it just depends on like what your niche is how much marketing you do and things like that the great thing about you to me is you upload your video and they do all the marketing for you and then the money just rolls in skill skill shirt is not like that they will not do the marketing for you not really so it just depends on the following you can
create on the website and I'm not interested in building a following on their website because I have my own website go to me.com where I have all my courses if I'm gonna do any marketing I want to do it there then I get 100% of all the revenue versus the you know profit sharing that I get from this so you look at the teacher stats last month I had 487 premium minutes old and 639 total minutes so there's three minutes and premium minutes and you only get paid for the premium minutes so I don't remember exactly how much I made for that 487 minutes but it was like thirty bucks or something right the month before I had 600 and it was like fifty or sixty bucks or something so that was like my best month so far this month I'm at 237 and there's only about a week left so I'll probably make like 20 bucks this month doing that now I haven't uploaded a video in a while these two months I
uploaded a bunch extra new videos and that's I think so I will keep uploading courses as I make them probably but for one thing Skillshare only lets you upload one course per week and the uploads system is a little bit wonky it's not as easy as with you to mean and they don't allow you as much control over your landing page and things like that so my view is if you have a course and you're selling it at udemy upload it to Skillshare and just see what happens maybe you'll get lucky maybe you'll make a lot of money maybe you won't make hardly anything but it doesn't cost you anything to do that you can upload a course in ten minutes or whatever you might as well sign up for an account and go go to town just don't expect it to make a whole lot of money now here's another website this is skill wise and it's stacked social and what these people do is they their business model is to
bundle things together into bundles so I have a Ruby on Rails course the very first course I ever did they came to me and they said we'd like to sell your course we'd like to put it in this bundle what do you think and I said sure and so they did so they made a Ruby on Rails course bundle and I think the first month I made like $1500 in the second month I made like $900 in the third month I made like three hundred dollars and then that was it they stopped promoting it and they moved on I still get checks from them every once in a while every three or four months I'll get I'll send a $30 thing will pop up in my PayPal account you know okay you have a payout like whatever so that seems to be the model if you can get contacted by them and invited into a course bundle you should do it you'll make a couple thousand dollars but then just realize they'll stop marketing it they're gonna
do their marketing and then when they finish they're finished and you're not gonna make a penny otherwise now I have contacted them and said hey I have all these other courses would you like to add them yeah yeah sure I won't get back to you and then they never do six months later I go hey I've got all these other courses would you like to bundle another one oh yeah we're really interested and then you never hear back from them they are notoriously bad at communications you can't get anybody my rep my service rep that signed me up no longer working at the company they're out months ago so like there's high turnover like you can't get anybody on email you know they just do what they want to do and you can't convince them to do otherwise so if you get lucky enough to get contacted by them absolutely go for it because you'll make a couple thousand bucks probably but
otherwise I wouldn't even bother they have a thing where you can just create an account and upload your courses so I did that I uploaded a few of my courses not a single one sold so you know this only works if they're interested in you otherwise don't bother finally selling courses on your own you can throw up a WordPress website put in a a membership plug-in and start selling your own courses on your own website and I do that myself my my website is go to me.com I saw all my coding courses they're pretty good domain name Hey and I just I just upload the exact videos from you to me up to my course I use Vimeo to host the videos you could use YouTube if you wanted to I just I want to female it costs 100 bucks a year or something to do that but you get a bunch of cool things when you do that we'll talk about that some other time but yeah I just list all my stuff and here I have
a couple of different membership packages you can get all my courses for 50 bucks or I have a coupon code you get $20 off and so I market this at the end of all of my udemy courses so the last video and your udemy course can be a bonus lecture and you to me allows you to put anything in there you want marketing wise so in that court in that video at the end of every course I say hey if you like this course and you want to check out my other courses you can get them all for a one-time fee of $29 it's usually $49 but since you just watched this video I'll give you $20 off with this coupon code sign up now and a surprisingly high number of people do that it's not I don't at this point make quite as much money on this website as I do at udemy itself but it is growing and growing and the more courses I create the higher it goes until at some point I think this is going to over
overrule udemy as far as income and I'll focus most of my time just on this website and udemy will be sort of an afterthought but we're not there yet but definitely now you need a little bit of technical knowledge to do this you need to understand how to create web hosting how to do a website you know how to do WordPress how to get the membership plug-in working how to upload your videos correctly how to do payment processing accept paypal accept credit cards etc so it is more complicated but we'll talk about in the future how exactly to do it I might make a course on how to do this if if the demand is high enough if you're interested in this sort of thing I'll just make a complete course to show how I do this and how you can - but this is definitely the best option outside of you to me so that's all for today's report if you liked this episode be sure to smash the
